I am someone who gets sore throats a lot. If I eat a bacon and cheese roll then after a few hours I will get a sore throat, which then develops into a cold.
So what is the natural remedy for sore throats? I think it is propolis lollies (or candy).
Propolis is a bee product. Wikipedia described it as "bee glue" which is obtained from the tree
buds and then used by the bees to coat and fix the honeycombs.
I started buying these about three year ago. I used them whenever I get a sore throat. I know that I am a bit of a hypochondriac at times. For example, I would sense a sore throat developing when I hear someone sneezing and coughing in an enclosed train in winter. It is at this moment, I take a propolis as a precaution.
Since discovering propolis, I have got colds less frequently. Actually, only once in the last 18 months.
The good thing about them when compared to other medicinal soothing lollies from the supermarket is that they don't leave your mouth dry after consumption.
I have tried many brand and "Comvita" is still my favourite brand. The packaging is really good - the lollies come individually wrapped and doesn't melt into your bag. More importantly, Comvita tastes nicer than the other propolis brands (in my opinion).
P.S.Ingredients list -sugar, corn sugar, Manuka honey (4.7%), water, propolis solids, lemon flavour, menthol and peppermint oil. ## As this is a bee product, this is obviously not appropriate for people with allergies to bee products.
P.P.S. The prices tends to range from $15 to $25 per pack (contains 40 lollies per packet). Where to buy it? Chemist Warehouse at Hurstville Westfield sells them (currently, other Chemist Warehouse don't stock them). Otherwise, souvenir shops that sell Australian tourist products (for example, in Campsie, Hurstville or Sydney CBD).
